Hello there!
I am Kyle Thiboutot.
As an seasoned Design Thinker and UX Designer with close to 15 years of experience, I am dedicated to expanding the influence, scale, and output of design and innovation to teams to enhance business outcomes and the user experience. I work closely with multidisciplinary teams and empower them in solving complex challenges. I have assisted enterprise organizations, startups, and individuals in enhancing the impact of design in their businesses, products, and continuously improving culture.
Right now
I work at FM Global, where I have worked on exciting projects and have identified many opportunities for the company. Our company focuses on Risk Mitigation for our clients, large and small. Over the years, I have built visions for our clients, encompassing their end-to-end digital experience. I am on the vision team focused on strategy for the larger organization, but really what that means is How might we understand and deliver for our users and give them the best possible desired outcomes.
Previously
I evolved as a designer at IBM where I led client projects. Large projects with Medtronic to create an app for people with Diabetes to improve their day-to-day activities and provide valuable information via insights from Watson. E-commerce redesigns for toy shops such at Hasbro. I have even worked with Google helping them solve user experience issues for their internal applications.
One of my main goals while working at IBM is to change people's perceptions of IBM. It's not just culture change; it's also delivering work that exemplifies that we were different. I learned a powerful tool along the way: IBM Design Thinking.
I trained as an IBM Design Thinker and applied my training to client projects. I eventually started facilitating Design Camps where we would bring clients in for a week-long workshop to train them in the framework. I took several courses on Accessibility, which has greatly influenced my design approach. I've led multimillion dollar projects, where I worked closely with my creative team to get the best user centered work we can deliver and give them room to grow, and encourage them to bring their unique style into the work.
I love the discovery phase of a new project and figuring out interesting ways to solve pain points. Some of the tools I have brought to projects over the years include user research, wireframing, visioning workshops, leading design direction, prototyping, user testing, website creation, e-commerce sites, applications, responsive design, printed materials, branding identity, style guides, mock-ups, presentations, and videos.

"I've worked closely with Kyle for 5 years, and am a better designer and person because of it. Kyle has taught me so many key things, including:
• How important it is to check in frequently and see how things on a team are going. This sets up an environment where it is safe to share your thoughts and opinions as they arise. He regularly sets up retros on his working teams or has 1:1 conversations to discuss how to make things better. He gives everyone a voice, and allows us all the opportunity to grow and be satisfied with work.
• The value of the Design Thinking Framework and the magic that can happen when you follow it.
• The benefit of team working sessions with a positive vibe (my now favorite way of collaborating). You don't have to solve problems alone, and in fact solutions are better when more than one person grinds on the work. This will plant seeds of comradery, trust, and joy -- all pillars of a successful team that Kyle regularly grows by ensuring these sessions happen frequently.
• What a staunch advocate of users looks like. Kyle is the most human centered designer I know. His decision making and design direction can always be traced back to the user.
Kyle keeps work enjoyable and creative and is a tremendous thought partner."
